Stellar limits on scalars from electron-nucleus bremsstrahlung

چکیده
We revisit stellar energy-loss bounds on the Yukawa couplings $g_{\rm B,L}$ of baryophilic and leptophilic scalars $\phi$. The white-dwarf luminosity function yields B}\lesssim 7 \times 10^{-13}$ L}\lesssim 4 10^{-16}$, based bremsstrahlung from ${}^{12}{\rm C}$ ${}^{16}{\rm O}$ collisions with electrons. In models a Higgs portal, this also implies bound scalar-Higgs mixing angle $\sin \theta \lesssim 2 10^{-10}$. Our new apply for $m_\phi\lesssim {\rm 1~keV}$ are among most restrictive ones, whereas 0.5\,{\rm eV}$ long-range force measurements dominate. Besides detailed calculation rate degenerate semi-relativistic electrons, we prove simple argument that non-relativistic by heavy partner is suppressed relative to light one their squared-mass ratio. This large reduction was overlooked in previous much stronger B}$. an Appendix, provide fitting formulas (few percent precision) emission as well axions conditions, i.e., degenerate, electrons ion-ion correlations ``liquid'' phase.

Polarization transfer in relativistic electron-nucleus bremsstrahlung
The emission of circularly polarized photons during the scattering of fast spin-polarized electrons from heavy nuclei is studied within the Dirac–Sommerfeld-Maue approach. Predictions are made for the dependence of the polarization correlations C32 and C12 on collision energy, photon energy and nuclear charge. A comparison with pilot measurements of the transmission asymmetry, sensitive to C32,...
متن کاملTarget effects on the linear polarization of electron-nucleus bremsstrahlung
The polarization properties of electron-nucleus bremsstrahlung occurring both in electron-atom collisions and, in inverse kinematics, in ion-atom collisions have continuously attracted strong theoretical interest [1, 2]. Due to the recent development of efficient Compton polarimeters precise studies of photon linear polarization in the energy region from roughly 70 up to a few hundred keV have ...

متن کاملElectron – heavy nucleus bremsstrahlung at highly relativistic impact energies
Bremsstrahlung including the polarization correlations is revisited by presenting a new model which is applied to the short-wavelength limit. The fast incoming electron is described by a SommerfeldMaue function whereas for the outgoing electron an exact Dirac function is used. The cross section for electrons radiatively scattered from gold is calculated in the impact energy range 0.2–10 MeV and...
متن کاملElectron polarimetry with bremsstrahlung
Due to the spin-orbit interaction, the electron scattering from the nucleus is sensitive to the spin orientation of that electron. This is used for polarimetry of electron beams in the Mott method. The spin-orbit interaction was also observed in bremsstrahlung. In this article we analyze its potential for polarimetry as an alternative to the Mott method. It can simultaneously measure all three ...
